In May 2010, a LIF lidar collected 15,004 returns across the narrow Black Sea shelf near Sochi. The survey recorded chlorophyll-a, CDOM, and suspended matter along a coast influenced by several short mountain rivers.

Chlorophyll-a was approximately 0.45 µg/L across the shelf. Suspended matter had a median close to 3 mg/L and exceeded 15 mg/L in the coastal band nearest river outflow. The transect records this nearshore-to-offshore gradient continuously along the vessel track.
